Wanting to keep the most unwanted aquatic nuisance species out of Kansas waters, the “Stop Aquatic Hitchhikers” billboard from the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism (KDWPT), was a light-hearted public service announcement about the damaging effects of aquatic nuisance species. These aggressive species of animals or plants that are not native to Kansas can threaten lake and river ecology, harm native species, and interfere with the economy. Voicing the threat to Kansas waters, the “Stop Aquatic Hitchhikers” billboard reminded fisherman and watersport enthusiasts they can help KDWPT stop aquatic nuisance species.
